This illustrative view can serve as:

  • A framework for discussion about the talent in your organization.
  • A way to collectively identify strengths and weaknesses in your talent pool and make better-informed decisions on your employee development process.
  • A method for providing transparency over the state of your talent across the entire organization.

How to create a performance map

With performance mapping, you can put any two attributes together that are derived from the manager's form, such as potential vs. performance, and behavior vs. competencies, to compare:

  • Two scale questions against one another
  • Two categories of questions against one another
  • One scale question against a category of questions
  1. From the left menu, select Talent > Performance > Manage cycles.
  2. Click the performance cycle that you'd like to review.
  3. Select the Insights tab.
  4. Select the dropdown below Manager's form.
  5. Select the X-axis of the grid, then scroll or search for a question category or a specific question below a question category, then click Apply.
  6. Select the Y-axis of the grid, scroll or search for a question category or a specific question below a question category, then click Apply.
  7. Select the scale you’d like to use below the question:
    • 2x2 for a binary analysis
    • 3x3 for a classic 9-grid analysis
    • Actual scale to use the scale used in the questions selected, e.g. 5-point scale

How to review the performance map data

The performance map will show the number of people in each of the boxes from low to high as per the chosen questions and categories. Below the map, a people table will show the employees, their managers, and individual scoring for each question and category selected.

  1. Hover over the numbered circle to see who they are and their role, as well as the overall percentage of people who are in this area.
  2. Filter your data in three ways:
    • By box: Click the numbered circle in the box to display the data that specifically matches the grouping you selected in the table below the map, showing all of the people that belong to that group.

Tip: You can combine a box selection with condition-based selections.

    • By condition: Click the three-dot menu, select Filter, then select the desired values from the dropdown menus. Click + Add condition to create more filtered conditions. Click Apply when you're done.

    • By name: Click the three-dot, select Filter, then scroll or search for the employee(s) that you’d like to include and tick the box to their left. Click Apply when you're done.

Tip: Use the column picker to the top right of the table to add or remove employee information in the table.

  3. Search for a particular person: Click the search icon to the left of the column picker. Enter the person's name in the search field.

Note: A person will only display if they match the set criteria in the filters.
